OTHER CHARACTERS: The Master (Doctor Who)

CHARACTER NAME: Kairi

CHARACTER SERIES: Kingdom Hearts

SPECIES: Human

AGE: 15 years old

CANON POINT: Late KH2, after Namine opens a portal and they rejoin. She doesn't have enough canon in DDD.

CLASS/ABILITIES:

We don't yet know much about Kairi's abilities. We know that she can hold her own in a fight, as we see her taking on a mess of creatures without any experience, but we've yet to reach the point in canon where we really see her fully in action. However, in KH canon, characters' fighting styles seem to more or less be similar to the characters that “initiated” them (Riku takes after Terra, Sora kind of takes after Ven... ish)... even if that initiation, with the exception of Riku, been done strangely. Kairi “accidentally” was initiated by Aqua, who is a magic-heavy character.

Because of this, Kairi will be classed as a Mage.

HISTORY:

http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Kairi

At a young age, Kairi grew on on a world called Radiant Garden, living with her grandmother. It's here that she has a brief encounter with the Keyblade Master named Aqua, who saved her (with the help of Mickey) from a group of creatures called Unverse. During this encounter, Kairi touches Aqua's keyblade, which initiates what's called the “Keyblade Inheritance Ceremony.” This doesn't come in effect until much later in the series.

Aqua had also given Kairi a necklace that contained a powerful spell in exchange for a bundle of flowers Kairi had gave her. When Kairi's world became bathed in Darkness, that spell saved Kairi and sent her away from the darkness to “someone who will keep her safe.” Kairi appears on Destiny Islands, where she remains, growing up with her friends Sora and Riku.

Before the trio can try to go on a quest to find other worlds, Destiny Islands is engulfed by Darkness and under attack by the Heartless. Presumably to find safety from the Darkness, Kairi's heart leaves her body and takes refuge within Sora's, and her empty body remains under the protection of Riku, though he's been corrupted. On a rare occasion, her heart is responsive to the situation at hand, trying to give Sora strength, or help him out.

Kairi's heart returns to her body after Sora uses a keyblade that unlocks hearts on himself, freeing Kairi's heart and plunging his own into Darkness and becoming a Heartless. Kairi is known as a “Princess of Heart,” meaning that she has a connection to the Keys and Keyholes of worlds and her heart contains pure light. It was likely due to this that Kairi was able to recognize Sora as a Heartless, and banish his Darkness to restore him. She later stayed in an old house in Traverse Town, giving her good luck charm to Sora, and waited for his return. They meet again as the worlds start to rebuild themselves, though they're still separate. His parting words to her: I'm always with you too, I'll come back to you, I promise!

She returns to Destiny Islands, continuing her life though her best friends are gone. And then one day her memories of Sora are gone, like he never existed.

A full year and staring out with Selphie to the old island where they all use to play, and a strange conversation between hearts, she has it: a name. Sora. And she remembers.

Not long later, Kairi's done with waiting for her friends to return, and after being confronted by Axel, she takes off through a different portal (courtesy of Riku, though she doesn't yet know it), following the dog Pluto. She ends up in Twilight Town for awhile with a few other children her age, until she's kidnapped by Axel, only somewhere along the way they're intercepted by Saix and taken to The World That Never Was where she's imprisoned because of her connection to Sora. Strangely, a girl in a white dress appears through a portal to rescue her, and Kairi finds herself trusting the girl without hesitation. Saix approaches them, and though the two are prepared to try and fight, they're saved by a cloaked figure, and Saix escapes.

They manage to find Sora outnumbered by Heartless, and Kairi, after receiving a keyblade from the cloaked figure, joins the fight to help her friend. The cloaked figure is revealed to be their friend Riku, and the trio share a long-awaited reunion.

They continue to fight and eventually make it to the top of the castle, before the door. The girl in white is Namine, Kairi's Nobody that was created when Sora released Kairi's heart from his. Namine provides them with a portal to escape through, and rejoins with Kairi after being able to meet Roxas again.

And then, well.

Then the Burning Legion.

PERSONALITY:

Kairi's strength comes from her heart, which is probably fitting considering she's known as one of the seven “Princesses of Heart.” She's pure in spirit, loyal, and will do anything to protect her friends. If people need help, she won't stand on the sidelines anymore, even if she physically may not be strong enough. She doesn't wish to see anyone in pain, and seeks to relieve it, thus she'll see the plight of the Burning Legion and the struggling of Azeroth's sentient races, and will step up to try and help them without question.

Axel tells her that she has “a lot of guts” after she jumps into a Darkness portal to escape him.

Like Sora (which she possibly got from growing up with him), she has a high level of optimism, and tries to remain in high spirits. There's a silver lining to all situations; it just needs to be found. But unlike Sora, she's not a fighter. At least she hasn't yet had the training for it (though we see her getting ready for it at the end of DDD, but Kairi's canon point is before that). She'll first try to talk her way out of a problem, rather than raise a weapon to an enemy.

As a child in Radiant Garden, she was quiet and shy, but being on Destiny Islands she came out of her shell and developed a playful side to her, again likely something she picked up from her close friends, Sora and Riku.

She's open-minded, but at the same time, this can be a weakness; she can be too trusting for her own good, despite everything she's been through, and could easily be manipulated by someone if they trick her by saying its to help people. Her curiosity and interest (like when she's excitedly listening to her grandmother's story) in many things could also get the best of her. She could also be seen as reckless, like when she jumps off a balcony and gets surrounded by Heartless. Sure, she meant well...

Kairi loves both Sora and Riku. “Close friends” is putting a bit mildly. She loves them. They were always together and they each shaped one another, little pieces here and there to help each other grow, and it hurts her that she can't be useful for either of them, even though she knows deep down that it doesn't matter to them. It bothers her that she can't help Sora, who says she would get in his way if she went with him, but she understands because he's right. She was only able to help him during his journey when her heart was protected by his. As she gets older, her restraint to hang back is lessened. She becomes overconfident that she can hold her own because she's terrified of what she would do permanently without them, and if her friends weren't there to support her from her own recklessness, she could have gotten seriously injured.

Her mental state is exceptionally fragile for multiple reasons, though she bundles it all up tight and smiles away her troubles.

Not only has she witnessed at a young age two worlds falling to Darkness, she also experienced the first part of Sora's journey while her heart was piggybacking alongside. So she's seen a lot of what he has, only to lose all those memories, and any thoughts connected to Sora, for a year, and then all at once those memories came crashing back; she passed out from the weight of it on her psyche. The shared experiences from Sora lend to a nice confusing clash of trying to remember what she's personally done, and what he has.

Kairi has kept all that knowledge to herself. She has to force herself to be strong while she's separated from Sora and Riku, hoping that they really will make it back one day. She's the only one on Destiny Islands that is aware of the struggle the two went through and the chaos of the worlds, and she doesn't tell anyone about it (I assume, since Selphie doesn't seem to know). She wouldn't even know where to start explaining, or hope that anyone could possibly believe her. They might just think that she needs professional help, and that she made up these long-winded stories as a coping mechanism.

Because of constantly losing her friends, and losing both her worlds, Kairi's desire to help people is as much a fault as it is a strength. She doesn't want to keep losing people; she doesn't want to be alone again. We could probably go as far to say that in general she has a fear of being by herself for more than a few hours, before getting antsy and wondering if something bad has happened. Especially on a world where demon attacks are frequent? Yeah, she has a lot to be terrified over. Once she finds out Sora and Namine are in Azeroth, she won't want to leave them, but it's highly unlikely that they'll be the same flight, so it's going to bother her a lot that she won't constantly be near them, especially Namine, who is part of her soul. She might make the mistake of becoming friends with people that could potentially be bad for her, just so she fills that void.

Kairi's morals are a one-track mind: if people need help, whatever is causing the damage should be stopped. Even if there's an actual good reason for it.

Kairi knows that she's a Princess of Heart, but she doesn't know the extent of what that really means (not that I think we do, either), and still thinks of herself as a normal kid... or at least as normal as you can get after she's gone through so much. She doesn't let the fact that she's a princess go to her head, and truthfully she doesn't usually think about it.

It's probably only because of being a princess though, with the pure light in her heart, that has kept her from utterly crumbling from her life, but even Kairi is well due for an emotional breakdown.

Due to her canon point, she tragically doesn't even know if Sora and Riku are still alive.
